Thanks for adding those, Saxon, in my excitement I overwrote my current save. I wonder, does anyone have a save file from before they sent the messenger to report on the alliance? Leaving the castle has three endings, I am sure; 1 - Missing any main objective = bad ending, the same as when you die 2 - Five traitor names, two envelopes, did not send the messenger = ??? the attack would not have been expected so I bet there's another bad ending or not-so-good ending here. 3 - Five traitor names, two envelopes, did send the message - good ending, shown below. I'd like to see what happens if you haven't completed the optional objective, but you've got the five names and the two envelopes.
Everyone. I have now finished the game 100% legitimately. DJ, remember that portrait on Level 2, the one with the red eyes? Press either of the lower corners of the frame to reveal it's hiding a secret behind it. Inside is the SCROLL containing the traitor's name, SIR MELEN. Take this scroll to the scribe on Level 3. Make sure you are wearing the PEER costume, and have nothing in your hands. Give it to the scribe, and you will question him about it, and accuse him of sending secrets to the enemies. He will say there is another scroll that hasn't been sent, but won't say anything further. Next, give him a valuable item. I tested this with a GOLDEN CROWN and an AMULET, both worked. Other things might work. He will tell you that the last scroll is hidden in a book, the title is a compound of the five traitor's names. He will say the last name is AL... and then he will be assassinated by a Crossbowman who spawns in the room. Quickly grab your weapons and kill him. Return to Floor 1 and head to the library room that's in the attached pic. You're looking for a book related to the traitor's names, you've got Wells, Almer, Melen, Al... and Riven. One book will be labelled WAMAR, press it to reveal a secret room behind it. This book is NOT present unless you have the four full traitor names and the first two letters of the last, as revealed by the scribe. Inside the secret room is a chest, and inside the chest is the BLACK BOX KEY and the STONE VASE. Open the main compartment of the BLACK BOX to reveal a SCROLL giving the final traitor's name in full, SIR ALWIL. Then lastly now you've got the STONE VASE, you can head down to the caves to unblock the secret exit and escape!
Attached is the map diagram, the red spots are the candles that need to be turned. When you turn the last one you'll hear a slightly different click, and while the door does not seem to change, it is now unlocked and you can open it manually.
I'm really happy to see the progress you're making through the game. If anyone can solve the mystery of the guy on Level 3 and the correct way to get the scroll for Sir Melen, I think that's all that's needed for a 100% walkthrough. One (belated) tip for Door Keys is not to mix them - with the exception of the single Door Key in the Courtyard hay-cocks (which is used on Level 1), Door Keys are only used on the level you find them on. So I'd keep Level 1's keys together, and drop them at the bottom of the main stairs, before I explored Level 2.
Second part of my post, more maps.
I've created some more maps with a few notable spots pointed out. Solved some of my own mysteries too, namely the Ice Flower and Piece of Ice are ingredients for Cone of Cold. The stone vase and the cave's lava are the key to open the final exit to escape the castle.
After hours of trial and error I've come to one conclusion about the combat, that it's critically flawed and impossible, with the equipment from the starting chest. Seriously, I've no idea what they were aiming for. The crossbow will do for a while but some guards are immune to it so beware. Combat - you've got block, attack and feint (the manual calls it 'cheat/false hit'). It suggests feinting and then attacking immediayely but it only works if the opponent tries to block. If the opponent attacks when you feint, you get hit, getting hit lowers strength and makes the battle harder. The only real success I had was to use the crossbow until I could afford Knight Trousers and Steel Armour from the Smith, a Magic Sword too. There is a Knight Shield in the Crypt if you don't want to buy one. When you've got a high armour, you can wait until the opponent swings a weapon, and swing yours a moment later. You won't clash weapons uselessly (parry), you'll injure the opponent. If the opponent is too strong, you'll flinch and be wounded, but it works against 95% of enemies. You should buy the Armet, but the best helmet has to be found, the Knight Helmet. It's an essential item actually, both since it opens a secret wall, and the 4 (!) point armour difference makes it so you only need to wound the strongest enemies once, then they can't make you flinch, you can slay them easily with the delayed hit, mentioned above. Strength - Strength is not something you train, it's a measure of whether you can strike with your full power. So if you get injured, your strength goes down, meaning you can't deal as much damage when you hit back. It goes for the enemies too. What I did to defeat the strongest enemies was to have the best gear, save and reload and use the feint/attack trick to hopefully cause a wound (took some luck) and then use the delayed hit move to defeat them. Anyhow. Please see the attachment, I've placed my guy in the crossbow's room, it is on level 1.You must douse the candles on the wall with some water, and turn it, you'll open the wall up and the crossbow is inside. Have fun with it! There's a few guards between there and the starting area, remember they can't open doors so you can shut yourself inside until you've got the bow ready. Wes P, The only bookcase you need to bother with is a specific one on level 2, you do need to be looking at those index pages, you should see something unique on one of them.
Hello, firstly my apologies, I only speak English. I love this game and am overjoyed to see people playing it! I want to share everything I know. You have two known objectives, - Find the five traitor names - Find the two stolen documents and one third, hidden objective - Discover Raymond's alliance with a rival king and report this to an ally. If you do this properly, then in the ending, a surprise attack from the north will be thwarted and you will gain total victory. I haven't seen what happens if you get the names and the documents but fail to do this last task. You will find a CELL KEY in the dungeon, which will unlock one of the cell doors (the one that can't be opened by the BUNCH OF KEYS). Inside is a prisoner who will tell you the name SIR RIVEN. The CELL KEY also opens a door to a torture chamber. You need two PLANKS to explore the caves. Eventually you will find a clump of white rock, right click on it with any weapon to collect DUST. Use any drinking vessel (BOWL, MUG) on a source of water to fill it. Use the DUST on it, to create ELIXIR OF LIFE. Use this on the chained skeletons in the torture chamber above, and one will give you the name SIR WELLS. Also in the caves, find a wooden coffin. Right click a weapon on the nearby stalagtite to make it smash into the ground. Inside the hole is a WOODEN BOX, inside the box is ORB OF VISION. Put the orb in your shield hand and living creatures will show up on the map. The location of the above skeleton will be shown if you use it. You will find a BLACK BOX as you explore, and close by is a SCROLL which implicates SIR ALMER. The box requires two keys, for two different secrets. The BLACK BOX KEY will give you a SCROLL, which will reveal the name SIR ALWIL. When you find the BOOK, you can place it on the ground and right click on it. Inside is a DESK KEY which will give you access to many keys and some quest items. To complete the final objective is more complicated. You will have to find a BIBLE. Take the BIBLE to the bishop on floor 2. Right click it on him, and he will give you DIAMOND CROSS. Take the cross to the altar and use the cross on it. You will receive ROYAL CROWN and GOLDEN APPLE. Take these to the crypt, and make sure you bring the SCARF. Wear the SCARF and find the two stone coffins in the largest room. One can be opened, and green gas will come out, it makes you sleep if you do not have the SCARF. Place the ROYAL CROWN and GOLDEN APPLE inside to receive the MAGIC RING. Use the ring on the BLACK BOX to unlock the other secret SCOLL, which tells of an alliance between Raymond and another king. Take the SCROLL to the messenger on Level 3. He will say he will deliver it, but the roads are blocked. Lastly give him the ROYAL RING that you started the game with, to let him pass the guards. Hints, - Fill mugs and bowls with water, and use the water on the candlesticks to snuff them out. Many unlit candlesticks can then be turned, they are hidden switches. - There are piles of hay in both Courtyard maps. Use a BURNING TORCH on them to burn them, as one of level 1's DOOR KEYs is hidden there. - Blue vase scenery items can be smashed by using a weapon on them, but only the one hidden behind the throne on Level 1 (click on the throne) contains anything. - Some chests and desks are turned facing away so you can't access them. Don't worry about these. - Always keep track of your KEYS. Do not discard CHEST KEYS when used, as they often open other chests. Especially, do not discard the CUPBOARD KEY or the DESK KEY. - You'll find BOMBS. They're great for killing those standing guards, you can sometimes get two at a time. You can kill Mr Smith with them too. Please don't hurt Mr Smith! - The key to access the alchemist's room is the GOLDEN AMULET found hidden on the hay in one of the dungeon cells. But you must have the GOLDEN SHIELD or you can't defeat him. You must block his attack at the right moment, it will disintegrate him. Lastly. I do not know the following, so here's your chance to help me. - I found the BIBLE on a previous playthrough, but never found it this last time, I forgot where it is. - I do not know how to get the BLACK BOX KEY legitimately. - I do not know how to find the SCROLL implicating SIR MELEN legitmately. - I do not know what to do with the scribe on Level 3. I can talk to him by wearing the PEER COSTUME, but can't do anything with him. NOTE - if you cheat to get the BLACK BOX KEY and read the scroll revealing SIR MELEN's name, it causes the scribe to be dead when you next visit level 3. So he's related somehow, I just need to work out what to give him. - On Level 2 is a scroll with times on, and a series of peep-holes in the walls. I can't work out what to do here. I killed the non-communicative NPCs on this level, maybe I should not have done that. - I cannot get past the switch puzzle close to the starting room of the dungeon, nor the chain puzzle in the crypt. However I've cheated my way inside and there is nothing vital inside. - I cannot work out the function of the following items - ICE FLOWER (alchemy, maybe), PIECE OF ICE (also might be alchemy), STONE VASE, SACK, VASE. - I cannot work out the relevance of the bubbling pool of lava in the caves. - Lastly also in the caves, I can't get past the Hidden Exit blocker, I had to hack move past it. I don't know how to remove it properly. I've posted some maps, I'll get the rest screencapped in time.
