1984, Brøderbund Software, Inc.
Karateka is a 1984 computer game by Jordan Mechner, the creator of Prince of Persia. The game begins with an impressive graphic of the fortress of the evil Akuma. Akuma is holding the lovely Princess Mariko. The player must defeat the guards of the castle and must eventually face Akuma himself in order to rescue the princess. Mechner adeptly used character gestures and musical cues to evoke the game's immersive atmosphere. The animations nearly match the quality of the ones seen in Mechner's Prince of Persia five years later...

1987, Konami Industry Co. Ltd.
Metal Gear is an overhead military action-adventure game originally released in 1987 by Konami for the MSX2 computer in Japan and parts of Europe. Considered the game to popularize the stealth game genre, it was the first video game to be fully developed by Hideo Kojima, who would go on to direct most of the games in the Metal Gear series. A reworked port of the game was released for the Famicom (without Kojima's involvement) a few months later, which later saw release in international markets for the NES over the following two years. Players control Solid Snake, an operative of the special forces unit FOXHOUND, who goes on a solo infiltration mission into the fortified state of Outer Heaven to destroy Metal Gear, a bipedal walking tank capable of launching nuclear missiles from anywhere in the world, as well as rescue a number of fellow agents who have been captured by the enemy...

Falcon is a combat flight simulator video game and the first official entry in the Falcon series of the F-16 jet fighter's simulators by Spectrum HoloByte. Originally developed by Sphere for Macintosh and MS-DOS in 1987 and ported to several platforms between 1988 and 1992, the game earned commercial success and critical acclaim. The players have their choice of flying one of 12 missions - with awards for flying missions at higher skill levels. There is a choice of different ground attack and air-to-air weapons, although these are also limited by several factors. For dogfighting, AIM-9J missiles are not as reliable as newer AIM-9L missiles - and are useless for head-on attack - but were typically the only missiles available...

1982, Williams Electronics, Inc., Midway, Atari
Joust is an action game developed by Williams Electronics and released in arcades in 1982. While not the first two-player cooperative video game, Joust's success and polished implementation popularized the concept. The game may be played by up to two players simultaneously. Controls for each player consist of a two-position joystick and a button. The screen contains several platforms, with the left and right edges wrapping around to each other. Each press of the button flaps the mount's wings; based on the rate at which it is pressed, the knight can ascend or descend at a desired rate or hover in midair...

Husita (Hussite) is Czech real-time strategy from Phoenix Arts, set in the glorious period of Czech history in the first half of the 15th century. After the death of Jan Hus at the Council of Constance, riots began and the "Chalice" Hussite movement spread. Sigismund, heir to the Bohemian throne, responded to this revolution by sending five crusades, which were defeated by the Hussites led by Jan Žižka. In the game, it is possible to choose a campaign (a progression game) or individual battles for one of the sides - Hussites/Crusaders, but any more coherent story is missing. The graphics are nicely drawn in SVGA (640x480px) resolution...
